Mid- century St Ives abstract oil painting with gilt frame and the label ‘Dryer Sunrise’ St Ives to the reverse.  The D is an initial DT. The horizontal T forms the vertical line of the D.
The painting is attributed to the prominent mid century abstract artist David Tinker (1924-2000)
- The Signature / Monogram: David Tinker frequently signed his abstract works with a distinctive, tight “DT” monogram where the top horizontal crossbar of the ‘T’ extends perfectly to form the flat top and backbone of the letter ‘D’.
- The Style and Imagery: Tinker was a prominent mid-century abstract artist associated with the St Ives School and the broader Cornish modernist movement during the 1950s and 1960s. His work from this era heavily featured hard-edged geometric abstractions, cosmic themes, sun symbols, and bold primary/secondary palettes (specifically yellows and reds). [1]
- The Scale: The dimensions (40.5 cm x 31 cm) are highly typical of his mid-century oil-on-board or oil-on-canvas studies from his time working alongside the West Cornwall abstract circles.
